
R. Thomas Murphy, CELA
Tom Murphy, Esq., CELA is the President of the Law Firm of R. Thomas Murphy & Associates, P.C. and has practiced law in Pennsylvania since 1994. Tom is also a Board Certified Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation, and recognized by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. He is a graduate of Drexel University in Philadelphia and the Widener University School of Law in Harrisburg.
Professionally, Tom is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Elder Law Committee. He is also on the faculty of the Pennsylvania Bar Institute providing continuing legal education to attorneys throughout the Commonwealth. Since 2006, Mr. Murphy has been selected annually as a “Super Lawyer” in the area of Elder Law by Philadelphia Magazine’s Law and Politics Edition. On Sunday mornings, Tom is a contributing guest on the Hagerstown, Maryland Channel 25 TV program, “Contemporary Retirement.” Mr. Murphy limits his practice to Elder Law, Estate Planning and Probate/Estate Administration.
Mr. Murphy is also on the board of directors of The Family Heritage Trust Company of Frederick, Maryland. The Trust Company provides trust and fiduciary services for individuals, estates and individuals with special needs.

Jared S. Childers, Esq., LL.M.
Prior to joining R. Thomas Murphy & Associates, P.C. as an attorney, Jared graduated from Penn State Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, PA and while there received the Miller Center for Public Interest Advocacy certificate for his work assisting low income seniors at the school’s Elder Law and Consumer Protection Clinic. He was a Senior Editor of the Penn State International Law Review and published several articles relating to cross-border retirement issues. In 2006, Jared was invited to the Elder Law Symposium of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys as a Student Fellow.
He earned an LL.M. from New York University in Taxation in 2009 before coming to R. Thomas Murphy & Associates, P.C. as an associate focusing on Estates and Elder Law. Jared has been involved in the Elder Law legal community since 2005, when he first started attending the Elder Law Section meetings of the Pennsylvania Bar Association of which he is a member. Jared is active in his church and supervises a site for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), which offers free income tax assistance to low-income individuals.
He earned an Associates Degree from LDS Business College in Business and then received his degree from Brigham Young University majoring in Italian. Prior to attending law school, Jared worked as a Personal Financial Representative and Insurance Agent for a major insurance company. He is married and the father of four children.

Barbara Henicle, Estate Paralegal
Barbara Henicle is an Estate Paralegal at R. Thomas Murphy & Associates, P.C. She is a native of Waynesboro and a graduate of the Class of 1975 from the Waynesboro Area Senior High School. Barbara attained her estate experience from Attorney Millard Ullman of the well known Law Firm of Ullman & Painter from 1977 through 1984. Barbara qualified as a card agent Notary Public for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1978. In October, 1992, Barbara completed the Paralegal Certificate Program through Penn State Continuing Education while employed from 1984 through June 30, 2008 at the Law Firm of Patterson & Kiersz.
Barbara participated in and received a Certificate of Completion of the Estate Practice Series Program through The Pennsylvania Bar Institute in January, 2004. Barbara worked closely with Estate and Elder Law Attorney, Gregory L. Kiersz, successor of the law practice of attorney Roy Angle, on estate matters until Greg's decease in May, 2005.
Barbara has been employed by the R. Thomas Murphy & Associates Law Firm since its conception on July 1, 2008, and remains a vital part of the estate administration and probate practice. Barb enjoys Harley-Davidson motorcycling, country line dancing and ten pin bowling. She is married to Waynesboro native, Mark E. Henicle, and enjoys the daily walks with her pound puppy, Katie, a four-year old rescued beagle.

Barbara Stefanic, Elder Law Paralegal
Barbara Stefanic is an Elder Law Paralegal at R. Thomas Murphy & Associates, P.C. After graduating from Waynesboro Area Senior High School, she was employed by Grove Manufacturing until moving to Harrisburg, where she worked for a law firm. After returning to Waynesboro in 1986, she was hired as a Legal Assistant by the firm of Patterson, Kaminski, Keller & Kiersz. She began assisting Attorney Greg Kiersz with Elder Law matters starting in 1994. Barb is married and the mother of two daughters. She enjoys painting, crafts and quilting.

Kim Myers, Elder Law Paralegal
Kim Myers is an Elder Law Paralegal at R. Thomas Murphy & Associates, P.C. Kim was born and raised in Greencastle and graduated from Greencastle High School. She earned an Associates Degree as a legal assistant from Hagerstown Business College and immediately started working on Estates and Real Estate matters for a local attorney. She took a break from the legal profession and worked for the First National Bank of Greencastle until deciding to return to the law field in 2005, working on Medicaid and Elder Law issues. Kim is active in her church and has served various community organizations as well as a service mission with Global Outreach. She is married and the mother of two children.

Susan Barlup, Elder Law Paralegal
Susan Barlup is an Elder Law Paralegal at R. Thomas Murphy & Associates, P.C. A native of Waynesboro, she graduated from Waynesboro Area Senior High School. Before coming to the firm she worked for fifteen years at Citizens National Bank of Waynesboro as a Teller and General Ledger Bookkeeper. She then worked at Quincy Village for twenty years as an Accounts Payable Clerk and Medicaid Specialist. Susan received her real estate license in 2000. She is active in her church and enjoys singing in the choir. She is a past president of the Waynesboro Lioness club. Susan is married and has three sons.

Tammy Hodder, Receptionist
Tammy Hodder is a Receptionist and Legal Assistant at R. Thomas Murphy & Associates, P.C. She graduated from Business Careers Institute with an Associates Degree and has worked in several law firms throughout Pennsylvania since 1993. Tammy moved with her family to Franklin County in 2007 and started with Mr. Murphy in January 2008. Tammy is married and has two children. She is also an avid walker.
